Timeline Between 15-22 May, 2006 (speculation)

Sam starts having seemingly random premonitions of an invisible killer murdering members of the Miller family. When the brothers investigate, they discover that the killer is son Max, who was abused as child by his father and uncle and is now seeking revenge on them using his newfound telekinetic abilities.

After a third vision, this time of Max killing his stepmother for not doing anything to stop the beatings, Sam goes to the Miller home to stop the premonition from happening. Though Dean insists on bringing a gun, Sam tries diplomacy first by trying to talk Max out of the murder, and in the course of the conversation Max discloses that just like Sam, his mother died pinned to the ceiling in a nursery fire, and six months ago he discovered he had psychic abilities.

Sam is stunned but unable to change Max's mind and ends up trapped in a closet while Max leaves to deal with Dean and his stepmother. Inside the closet, Sam has a vision of Max shooting Dean in the head, and in seeing this horrifying image, a new psychic power is revealed as Sam inadvertently moves the cupboard blocking the closet door. Sam is able to save Dean, but not before Max turns the gun on himself.

Quotes
Sam: Don’t look at me like that.
Dean: I’m not lookin’ at you like anything. Though I gotta say, you look like crap.

Dean: Our family’s not cursed. We just have our dark spots.
Sam: [laughing bitterly] Our dark spots are pretty dark.
Dean: [attempting a comeback] You’re....dark.

Sam: Aren't you worried, man? Aren't you worried that I could turn into Max or something?
Dean: Nope. No way. You know why?
Sam: No, why?
Dean: Because you've got one advantage that Max didn't have.
Sam: Dad? Because Dad's not here, Dean.
Dean: No, me. As long as I'm around, nothing bad is gonna happen to you.

Sam: We're not gonna kill Max.
Dean: Then what? Hand him over to the cops and say, "Lock him up, Officer. He kills with the power of his mind."

Sam: When Max locked me in that closet, that big cabinet against the door, I moved it.
Dean: You have a little bit more upper body strength than I give you credit for!

Sam: Well, I’ll tell you one thing. We’re lucky we had Dad.
Dean: I never thought I’d hear you say that.

Dean: I know what we need to do about your premonitions. I know where we have to go.
Sam: Where?
Dean: Vegas. (Sam ‘harrumphs’ and walks out) What? Come on man! Craps table? We’d clean up!

Sam: You can’t tell me this doesn’t freak you out.
(long pause)
Dean: This doesn’t freak me out.

Sam: Well, I know one thing I have in common with these people.
Dean: What's that?
Sam: Both our families are cursed.
Dean: Our family’s not cursed…we've just had our dark spots.
Sam: (chuckles) Our dark spots are pretty dark.
Dean: You’re...dark.

Max: All these people kept coming with, like casserole. I finally had to tell them all to go away. Because nothing says “sorry” like a tuna casserole.

References
Priests
When Dean & Sam are dressed as priests, Dean introduces them as Father Simmons and Father Frehley. Gene Simmons and Paul "Ace" Frehley were two of the founding members of the rock band KISS.

Dean: So, he’s psychic? He’s a spoon-bender?
&
Dean: [holding up a spoon to Sam] Bend this.
Spoon-bending was the signature feat of famous self-described "psychic" Uri Gellar. Gellar claimed one of his first telekinetic acts was accidently breaking a spoon during a meal when he was 4, and several televised recordings of his performances showed him bending spoons, among other tricks.

Others...

* When Sam is calling in the license plate he saw in his nightmare, he identifies himself as "Detective McCreedy." This is possibly a reference to one of the characters in the infamous B-horror movie Hobgoblins, a low-budget rip-off of Gremlins best known for being brutally mocked on the television show Mystery Science Threater 3000.
