Monster Ghost
Location(s) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The boys take
on a case Jo has researched in Philadelphia where blonde girls
in an apartment building are disappearing. Jo, without Ellens
permission, follows the boys to join them on the hunt.
While researching the case Jo shares with Dean that the reason
she hunts is because it makes her feel connected to her father.
They discover that the apartment building is built over the place
H.H.Holmes, Americas first serial killer, was executed and
that he may be holding his latest victim in a hidden room.
While searching the building, Jo gets captured by the spirit of
H.H. Holmes. Sam and Dean rescue her and then use her as bait
to trap him.
Ellen catches up with the boys and Jo, and there is a long uncomfortable
drive back to the Roadhouse. We find out that Ellen believes John
Winchester was responsible for her husbands death.

Trivia
When Sam is researching H.H Holmes, we see an old photo of a dead woman. This is in fact a photo of one of Jack the Ripper's victims, Annie Chapman, not one of Holmes.
The episode
is named after a play by Jean-Paul Satre. The best know line from
this play is Hell
is other people. In the play, three people
are locked in a windowless room expecting to be tortured. No-one
arrives, but by probing each other's sins, dark secrets and thoughts
they torture each other
Jo and Ellen's last name is Harvelle and the saloon is called
Harvelle's Roadhouse. The word "roadhouse" had been
the only part of the sign that was legible in episodes past.
Trivia: Jo's middle name is Beth.
Quotes
Dean:
A young girl been kidnapped by an evil cult?
Sam: Girl gotta name?
Dean: Katie Holmes
Sam: Thats funny! But for you - so bitchy
Dean (to Jo): Sweetheart, this ain't gender studies. Women can do the job fine. Amateurs can't.
Dean (to Jo): I was six or seven, and he took me shooting for the first time. You know, bottles on a fence, that kind of thing. I bulls-eyed every one of them. He gave me this smile, like... I don't know.
Sam: So? Is
this job as glamorous as you thought it would be?
Jo: Well, except for all the pee-your-pants terror, yeah sure.
But that Teresa girl's going to live a life because of us. It's
worth it, isn't it?
Jo: (about school)
I didn't belong there! I was a freak with a knife collection!
Jo: What are you going to do? Going to chain me up in the basement?
Ellen: You know what? You've had worse ideas than that recently.
Dean: My dad started me in this when I was so young, I wish I
could do something else.
Jo: You love the job!
Dean: Yeah, But I'm a little twisted.
Jo: You don't think I'm a little twisted too?
Jo: Take it, I won't bite.
Dean: No, but your mom might..
Jo: You ripped off a cement truck?
Dean: I'll give it back.
Sam: So, is this as glamorous as you thought it would be?
Jo: Except for all the pee-your-pants scares, yeah.
Jo: (on the phone) Thanks, Ash, and if you breathe a word of this
to Mom
thats right. I will. With pliers. (edit)
Dean: We rarely drink before 10, anyway.
Sam: Whered you get all that money?
Jo: Working at the Roadhouse.
Dean: Hunters dont tip that well.
Jo: Well, theyre not that good at poker, either.
Dean: (answers the phone) Yeah.
Ellen: You lied to me. Shes there.
Dean: Ellen
Ellen: No, Ash told me everything. The mans a genius, but
he folds like a cheap suit. Now you put my damn daughter on the
phone.
Dean: Shes gonna have to call you back, she taking care
of... feminine business.
Ellen: Yeah, right. Where is she? Where is she?!?
Dean: Look, well get her back.
Ellen: Get her back? Back from what?
Dean: The spirit were hunting, it took her.
Ellen: Oh my God.
Dean: Shell be okay, I promise.
Ellen: You promise. That is not the first time Ive heard
that from a Winchester.
Jo: So you gonna buy me dinner?
Dean: What are you talking about?
Jo: Its just if youre gonna ride me this close, its
only decent you buy me dinner.
Dean: Oh, thats hilarious. (edit)
