Quotes
Dean: You know,
one day I'd love to just sit down, and eat something that I didn't
have to microwave in a Mini-Mart.
Sam: The demon said he had plans for me, and children like me.
Dean: Ya...?
Sam: Maybe this is the plan. Maybe were all a bunch of psychic
freaks. Maybe were all supposed to be...
Dean: What, killers? (off Sams look) Gimme a break. Youre
not a murderer, Sam.
Sam: No? Last time I checked, I kill all kinds of things.
Andy: Why are you following me?
Sam: Well, we're lawyers. See, a relative of yours has passed...
Andy: Tell the truth!
Sam: That's what I...
Dean: (deadpan) We hunt demons.
Andy: What?
Dean: Demons, spirits, things your worst nightmares wouldn't even
touch. Sam here, this is my brother...
Sam: Dean, shut up!
Dean: (through gritted teeth) I'm trying! He's psychic. Kinda
like you, well not really like you, but see, he thinks you're
a murderer, and he's afraid that he's gonna become one himself,
cause you're all part of something that's terrible, and I hope
to hell that he's wrong, but I'm starting to get a little scared
that he might be right.
Jo: What?
Dean: REO Speedwagon?!
Jo: Damn right, REO. Kevin Cronin sings it from the heart.
Dean: He sings it from the hair--there's a difference.
Sam: Plus, it could have some connection with the demon. My visions
always do.
Dean: That's my point! There's gonna be hunters there. I don't
know if, if going in there and announcing that you're some supernatural
freak, with a demonic connection's the best thing, okay?
Sam: So I'm a freak now?
Dean: You've always been a freak.
References
Dean: It's
not exactly a serial killer's liar, though. There's no clown paintings
on the wall...
A reference to serial killer John Wayne Gacy Jr. who killed at
least 32 young men in Chicago in the 1970s (and buried most of
them in the crawl space under his home). One of Gacy's other hobbies
was dressing as a clown for children's parties and for visiting
sick children in the hospital. He also collected clown artwork
and even painted some of his own.
Andy's License Plate: RU OBI 1
Another reference to the 1977 film Star Wars and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Sam: Hegel, Kant, Wittgenstein, it's pretty heavy reading,
Dean.
Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770-1831) and Immanuel Kant (1724-1804)
were German philosophers, Ludwig Josef Johann Wittgenstein (1889-1951)
was a philosopher from Austria. All three are regarded as very
influential thinkers and are responsible for major philosophical
achievements. Their original works are counted among the most
complex and difficult readings available.
Sam: Dean, you had O.J. convicted before he got out of his
white Bronco and you have doubts about this?
Dean: He doesnt seem like the stone cold killer type, thats
all, you know. And O.J. was guilty.
This alludes to O. J. Simpson murder trial. In 1994, O.J.s
estranged wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman
were found murdered outside of her home. When O.J. was charged
with the murders, he failed to turn himself in and this lead to
a low speed pursuit in his white Bronco.
Andy: These aren't the droids you're looking for.
This is Obi-Wan's famous line to the stormtroopers who are searching
for C-3PO and R2-D2 in Mos Eisley in Star Wars Episode 4: A New
Hope.
Dean: He full-on Obi-Wan'd me. It's mind control, man.
Ben 'Obi-Wan' Kenobi was mentor to Annakin Skywalker in the Star
Wars prequels, and his arch-nemesis in the Original Star Wars
trilogy after Anakin turned to the Dark Side of the Force and
became Darth Vader. In the series, Jedi were capable of the technique
known as "Jedi Mind Trick", which allowed them to maniuplate
the thoughts and actions of "weak-willed" individuals.
